Do You Need A College Degree To Get A Job As A Software Engineer?
You do but you also don’t.
The cool thing about being in software engineering is that getting a job without a degree is even a possibility. If you look into trying to get into other professions like a doctor or a lawyer, doing so would be almost impossible without a college degree. You hear about and see plenty of self-taught software engineers everywhere, I never heard of a self-taught doctor, if there is one I’d stay as far away from them as possible. When it comes to software engineering all the resources you need to get a job are available for you for free on the internet. With a little bit of research, you can find what path you want to go in for example front-end, back-end, or full-stack. These aren’t even all the paths available as you can also go into app development for android and iOS, data science, the list just goes on. This post isn’t going to cover the best material to start with or which path would be the best for you as I’ll write a separate post on that in the future. This post is just to inform you that it is definitely possible to get into software engineering without a degree.
